Icacos: 5 Days Before the Quake: Wildlife, History & Trinidad's Wild Edge 🇹🇹 We didn't know it then. On Friday June 19th 2026 — Labour Day in Trinidad — we drove to the very end of the road. The southwesternmost tip of the island. The place where Trinidad almost touches Venezuela across a narrow channel called the Serpent's Mouth. We were there to explore. To document. To look for birds. Five days later, a magnitude 7.5 earthquake devastated Venezuela — one of the strongest in that country's history. And somewhere along the Icacos beachfront, the ground had already quietly shifted.
