Testing My Limits: The August Time Trial
Sometimes you have to test the waters and see where you stand. It's not a final destination, but a checkpoint along the journey that tells you that you're moving in the right direction. I've done this every year with an all-out 3200-meter race/time trial in August. This is usually the first test of fitness before cross country season kicks off to see how fitness was built throughout the summer. However, I recently graduated from college, which means I will not be competing in cross country this year for the first time in 10 years. Instead, I'm using the fall as an opportunity to build my base fitness in hopes of running the Boston Marathon in April if I can get in. This is week 5 of the build and I can already tell that fitness is coming along well, especially looking at the results from the time trial.
