Tarraco

http://www.artehistoria.com/artesp/vi... Tarragona was the first Roman settlement overseas, and from it began the Romanization of Hispania, becoming the capital of the Citerior province. The inhabited center was surrounded by a powerful wall built in the 2nd century BC. The urban planning of Tarragona was structured on three terraces, from the top of a hill to the port, one of the decisive elements of urban life. The city's forum was located on the lower terrace, a porticoed space containing the basilica, a temple, and other buildings. The complex was entered through a triumphal arch. This lower terrace also housed the theater, built during the reign of Augustus. Next to the theater building stood a monumental nymphaeum. A large thermal complex was located in the lower part of the city. All of these buildings were surrounded by dwellings, as these were scattered on the middle and lower terraces, following orthogonal layouts.
