La vita di Caravaggio - 2 di 2
Caravaggio's biography presents a before and after. The episode that abruptly interrupted the course of his life occurred on May 28, 1606: for gambling, for a disputed woman, or for trivial reasons, Caravaggio, at the height of his career, wounded and killed Ranuccio Tomassoni da Terni and was forced to leave the capital and begin a life as a fugitive. He was sentenced in absentia to beheading: anyone who encountered and recognized him could proceed with the execution. And so the heads of decapitated subjects, already present in his paintings, began to recur like an obsession. The last work that immortalizes him presents him as the giant Goliath, beheaded by a pitiful David, his face disfigured in an eternal grimace. Caravaggio, who had painted the work to thank Cardinal Scipione Borghese who was trying to obtain a pardon for him from the Pope (Paul V, Camillo Borghese, who was actually his uncle), died on the beach at Porto Ercole, unaware that the pardon had actually been granted and thus unable to return to the city that had consecrated him as the greatest painter of his time. 00:00 Reports, arrests, possession of weapons (the sword at his side) 00:40 Wounding of the notary Mariano Pasqualone from Accumuli (Lena Antonietti) 02:18 The denunciation of Prudenzia Bruni (Vicolo del Divino Amore) 03:17 The meeting with Galileo 03:51 Beating of Girolamo Stampa from Montepulciano 04:06 The murder of 1606 (Ranuccio Tommasoni from Terni) 06:55 The escape, the trial in absentia and the price on the head 07:30 The decapitated heads 08:10 Fillide Melandroni (portrait of a courtesan) 09:21 Judith beheading Holofernes (1597) 10:26 Martha and Mary Magdalene (1598) Anna Bianchini 11:08 Saint Catherine of Alexandria (1598-99) 12:07 The Nativity with Saints Lawrence and Francis (1600) 12:17 Anna Bianchini (Penitent Magdalene, 1594-95) 1:32 Rest on the Flight into Egypt (1597) 4:00 The Death of the Virgin (1605-06) for Santa Maria della Scala 6:49 The Death of the Virgin by Carlo Saraceni 7:55 The Escape (Prince Filippo I Colonna) 9:29 PM Naples, Sicily 9:51 PM Knight of Malta (1607) 10:56 PM The Wounding, Arrest, and Imprisonment of Sant'Angelo 11:14 PM The Beheading of John the Baptist 12:43 PM The Escape (1608) and Expulsion from the Order ("Fetid and Putrid Member") 10:40 PM Cardinal Borghese and the Request for Grace 27:10 The End at Porto Ercole (1610) 28:41 David with the Head of Goliath (1609-10)
