The Scottish Borders Tower of Fatlips

Fatlips Peel Tower stands proud on top of Minto Crags. It is also named Minto Castle, Mantoncrake, or Catslick and was held by the notorious Borders Reivers Turnbull family of Barnhill. How it came to be called Fatlips is vague. One theory being a supernatural spirit named Fatlips by an old woman who lurked under the castle’s shadows by day and walked around it by night. She was sustained with food provided by the Fatlips spirit. Other explanations relate the story of a boy child with Down syndrome who was kept away from others by being locked in the castle. Others say it was simply a greeting of house guests to the tower upon entering the castle. Fatlips was a ruin for many a year until a local woman and honorary Turnbull who grew up near it took personal action to create awareness for its restoration. As a result it was eventually restored and for her efforts is in the great condition it stands today. #scottishborders #scottishbordershistory #scottishhistory #fatlipscastle #scottishcastle #castle #castletour #scottish #scotland #geniusofbannockburntours You can be first to receive notifications of future films by subscribing to the channel via the following link:    / @robertthebruce-geniusofban647
