Thank you! 🙏 Phichit is located to the east of Kamphaeng Phet, to the south of Phitsanulok, and to the north of Nakhon Sawan, about 330km north of central Bangkok. The town was said to have first been established by Phraya Kotabong around 1058 as the first part of what was to later become the Sukhothai Kingdom. Its name has changed several times over the centuries. At first it was called Sa Luang ('city of the royal pond'). In Ayutthaya times it was called Okhaburi (meaning 'city in the swamp'), before finally becoming known as Phichit (meaning 'beautiful city') due to it being located on the northern side of a large lake that’s full of lotus flowers. King Suea, also known as Sanphet the 8th of Ayutthaya, was born here in 1661 and who was said to be the secret son of King Narai and his concubine Princess Kusawadi of Chiang Mai. The Siamese commoners in his time gave him the name Phra Chao Suea, (meaning "Tiger King"), for he was, according to the official chronicles, as evil as a tiger with stories abound of his appalling private life and acts of cruelty. Phichit is also known as land of the crocodiles, as it has been home to this reptile, which has thrived in its waters.
