DIY-How to Replace the Neck Bearings + Rebuild Front Shock or Forks on VTX1300
This video covers (2) repairs/issues: Item 1: Do you have a steering wobble when you let go of your handle bars when riding? That indicates that either your front tire or if it’s a VTX, most likely the neck bearings no good. Stock neck bearing are ball bearings instead of tapered bearings. Tapered bearing are much better suitable for this application and prevent the neck stem from wobbling, In this video I show how you can go about replacing the neck ball bearing with tapered bearings. The best set of bearing to get will be the “All Balls” brand tapered bearings. Item 2: Is your front shock leaking? This indicates that the seal is broken or worn out, and the shocks need replacing. Buy the OEM kit only. Other seals don’t sit as well and leak. This is also a good time to switch out the stock springs in the shocks to progressive shocks. They are much better at taking up the shocks and road noise. This is also a good time to replace the oil with some quality shock oil. I personally used the AMSOIL shock therapy fluid. 15.5oz of fluid in each shock. In this video I show how you can rebuild the front shocks. check out my other VTX DIY videos: • VTX 1300 Motorcycle As Always, SAFETY is first.
