Embassies, hotels, and shops were built among tree-lined streets and Republican-style houses, turning it into the city's bohemian and tourist epicenter. 💔 THE TURN Over the years, the shine faded. Insecurity, the closure of businesses, and the migration of residents left behind empty bars, protest graffiti, and streets with little nightlife. Today, many Quito residents avoid passing through. 🌱 WHAT COULD BE The Metropolitan Council is debating a plan for its regeneration: recovering residences, attracting new residents, reactivating the economy, rehabilitating plazas, and strengthening security.
