Suwariwaza shomen'uchi nikyo omote waza - 座技正面打ち二教表技 - Aikido Virtual Dojo
In this video we present the technique suwariwaza shomen'uchi nikyo omote waza. We explain the principal movements and show potential mistakes in a funny way at the end. Shomen'uchi is a cutting attack from above nage's head towards the forehead of uke. But in the static version it's actually the nage who calls the attack, moving his arm from low to high. Nikyo means literally the second movement and refers to connection through uke's wrist and elbow, which are both positioned at specific angles. The technique ends with a pin on the tatami's / ground. Suwariwaza refers to techniques in which both the nage and the uke are moving on their knees. This way of practicing can be historically linked to the times when the samurai were supposed only to be seated or to move on their knees in front of the Daimyo (feudal lord), which would make it more difficult for anyone to attack the Daimyo.
