The Old & The New Of Newcastle East | NSW | Trams/Light Rail | Buses

Newcastle Transport commenced operation of the Newcastle Light Rail service in February 2019. 6 CAF light rail vehicles are based at the depot opposite Newcastle Interchange. The trams operate in service on a single line, mostly double track system. The service operates between Newcastle Interchange & Newcastle Beach. The 2.5km long network has 6 stations with frequent talk of various extensions into the inner Newcastle suburban areas. The trams run in service on an onboard battery at a top in service speed of 40kph. They run wire free & pantograph down in between stops. Rapid chargers are fitted at each platform to top up the onboard battery during station stops. The driver raises & lowers the pantograph to connect with the rapid chargers. The depot is wired outdoors & powers the trams with 750V DC from the overhead wires. Thursday 27 October 2022.
