Blue Oscar, Orange Oscar | NSW | Trains

One of the byproducts of the introduction of the Mariyung trains on the NSW intercity networks is the cascading of Oscar trains to suburban services. Currently (at the time of production, March 2026), Oscar trains are used on intercity services on the South Coast services as well as peak hour services in the peak direction to/from the Central Coast via the North Shore. Additionally, Oscar trains are now used on some suburban services on the North Shore, Northern & Western lines. Crew training on the South Coast for the Mariyung fleet is now underway with an expected introduction starting from mid April 2026. Central Coast via North Shore services will be the last Mariyung services some time later in 2026 when more trains become available. Oscar trains will be replacing K sets on suburban services with K sets expected to be fully retired some time in the first half of 2026. Oscar trains are in the process of being refurbished and refreshed for suburban service. The current stage of this refurbishment includes a change of livery from their original CityRail yellow & blue to Sydney Trains orange. This is similar to the series 2 Waratahs (B sets). There are currently no restrictions between operating either type of trains on either suburban or intercity services. For now, the toilets have not been removed but are locked up when not on intercity services. Other improvements in this stage includes new external logos, new floors & new floors. At Central on Friday 26 February 2026, a blue/yellow Oscar is parked next to an orange Oscar. The orange Oscar next to the blue Oscar gives a good before & after view of this stage of the refurbishment. ABOUT A MOUNTAIN OF WORK A Mountain Of Work was born in October 2022 while recording footage on a rail tour around Port Waratah near Newcastle. After many years of recording transport action by taking photos, improvements and popularity of the video format meant that A Mountain Of Work should be a video channel. The majority of footage is shot on various mobile devices with post production also performed on mobile devices. A deliberate plan was for A Mountain Of Work to be all about the subjects of the video and not the creator of the channel. As a result, there is no narration or commentary. The only noise you will hear while be those that are heard on location. Often, no special audio equipment is used. Any information featured on A Mountain Of Work is from publicly available sources. A Mountain Of Work is not associated with any transport operator.
