What to Expect when Skiing St. Moritz
St. Moritz is one of the most posh ski resorts in the world. What can you expect if you go there to ski or snowboard? 1) Shopping - St. Moritz is luxury. Fashion, watches, jewelry... all the high end stores seem to be there. Just explore the town and you'll find plenty of ways to spend more money than you have. 2) Restaurants - There's a range from Michelin star-rated cuisine to casual cafes. A really helpful tool that I haven't seen at other resorts is the following website, which details St. Moritz restaurant, including picture and details about hours: www.stmoritz.com/en/directory/restaurants 3) Transportation - You can access St. Moritz by train from Zurich airport. If you fly to Milan, you'll need a rental car or private/shared transfer. Once you're in St. Moritz, the bus system works very well. 4) Terrain - The marked trails at St. Moritz (the Corviglia ski area) are largely intermediate to advanced intermediate. You can certainly find beginner or expert terrain, but there are other ski resorts in Switzerland that offer a larger percentage of those types of slopes. The terrain is spread across several different mountains that are not connected. So if you want to ski or snowboard all of it, you'll need to drive or transfer between them via bus. The IKON Pass includes all of the areas. 5) Accommodations - A key consideration is whether you want to stay in St. Moritz Dorf, which is the main part of town where most of the restaurants, bars and stores are, or in St. Moritz Bad, which is more calm and can be a bit less expensive. Mountain access from St. Moritz Dorf is provided by the funicular, while you access the mountain from St. Moritz Bad by the Signal tram. Famous expensive hotels like Badrutt's Palace Hotel and the Kulm Hotel are in St. Moritz Dorf, though there are plenty of other high end hotels through St. Moritz.
