Ovelia's Worries - Final Fantasy Tactics (solo piano arr. by Casey Ormond, v. 2)
"I...I want to trust you. I do. But...it is not such an easy thing." HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! Hope the holidays were enjoyable for you all and everyone is in good health! (And it stays that way!!!) I am DETERMINED to finish the Tactics piano collections as my first big project of 2021! just working on arranging Staff Credits and relearning older arrangements to re-record, like this one by Casey Ormond, Ovelia's Worries ( • "Ovelia's Worries" (Piano) - Final Fantasy... ). Definitely needed to do a better job on it this time around. Also I felt like I didn't communicate as well as I could have back in 2017, especially with regards to the function of this track in the game. I took a more introspective interpretation with this one back then, slower paced and sad, which is okay i guess, but the scene during which this plays is so pivotal to Ovelia's feelings regarding Delita that I felt like this time I needed to take a more "in-the-moment" interpretation. SPOILERS Delita not only freely admits to a wounded Olan that he is responsible for Duke Goltanna's death and pinning it on Count Orlandeau, but goes on to reveal his greater plan to bring down the church ("Ivalice made level") in order to make Ovelia queen. His duplicity is denounced by all those present--Olan, Balmafula, and Ovelia herself listening at the door, running away at his words, is in itself a silent condemnation. This theme is such a wonderful framing of that scene in that it intertwines both Ovelia's and Delita's themes, reharmonizing Ovelia's Theme into a sad, conflicted version of her original theme to fit the minor mode of Delita's. Casey's fantastic, soulful arrangement explores this inner turmoil thoroughly with a lot of incredibly beautiful, ambiguous reharmonizations of his own, deceptive cadences, and starkly contrasting light and dark sections. I especially love his two climactic sequences near the end, which to me depict the raw depth of her confusion regarding Delita. This time around, I stuck to Casey's notated tempo and tried to infuse this with all of the urgency and turbulence of that scene, as it marks the beginning of the end of Ovelia's and Delita's relationship--ironically, just as it was beginning. Less tragic past, more frustrated present, i suppose. I hope you all like this version!! And I cannot thank Casey enough for writing such a beautiful and complex piano arrangement for this beautiful and complex theme, it's really astounding. I can only hope to write something as beautiful as this one day!!! Next up is the rehaul of Random Waltz!!!! Wish me luckl!!
