Start Small and Build a Creative Habit, Beginner Watercolor

If you’re new to watercolor and don’t know where to start, I actually don’t think you need to begin with big paintings. In this video, I’m sharing why small watercolor paintings, tiny sketchbook pages, and simple floral studies can be one of the best ways to build confidence as a beginner. Painting small has helped me stay creative during busy and difficult seasons, because it makes the process feel more manageable, peaceful, and easier to return to again and again. I’ll be painting in my small sketchbook and sharing thoughts on beginner watercolor practice, consistency, perfectionism, and why simple studies can teach you so much without the pressure of creating a finished artwork every time. This is also the idea behind my beginner floral watercolor course — starting small, repeating simple shapes, and building confidence one gentle painting at a time.
