Mungo National Park Changed What We Know About Australia | Darling River Run Begins
This is where our Darling River Run journey begins… but we never expected the first stop to completely change the way we look at Australia’s history. Travelling from Wentworth into Mungo National Park, we quickly realised this wasn’t just another outback destination. There’s something about this landscape that feels difficult to describe until you experience it for yourself… quiet, powerful, and deeply connected to a story far older than modern Australia. Located within the World Heritage-listed Willandra Lakes Region, Mungo holds evidence of human life dating back more than 40,000 years, making it one of the most historically significant places in the country. As we explored the ancient landscapes, visited the historic Mungo Woolshed, and learned more about the stories of Mungo Lady and Mungo Man, this part of the journey became far more reflective than we ever expected. But this episode also marks the beginning of our attempt to follow the Darling River north through remote Outback New South Wales, taking us through historic river towns, changing landscapes and some of the most isolated parts of the country. From sunset at the Perry Sandhills to driving the famous Mungo self-drive tour, this first chapter of the Darling River Run immediately reminded us why we love travelling Australia the way we do… slowing down, learning the stories behind the places, and experiencing parts of the country we knew very little about before arriving. We’d genuinely love to know in the comments: What’s a place in Australia that completely changed your perspective once you visited it? ☕ Grab a cuppa and come along for the beginning of this incredible journey. --- 🌏 Support ExploreOz 🎥 Patreon Early access, behind-the-scenes content & extra adventures / exploreoz ❤️ YouTube Memberships / @explore_oz --- 💥 Brands We Use & Trust On The Road Grounded Drops Coffee 15% off with code EXPLORE_OZ https://groundeddrops.com.au/ GRABmeGEAR 10% off with code EXPLOREOZ https://www.grabmegear.com.au/ Stratus Outdoors Use code EXPLOREOZ https://www.stratusoutdoors.com.au/EX...
