We Didn’t Think We’d Make It… | Girraween National Park

Some hikes look manageable from the bottom… until you actually start climbing. What we thought would be a fun afternoon exploring Girraween National Park quickly turned into one of the toughest hikes we’ve taken on in a long time, as we attempted the famous Pyramid walk in Southern Queensland. With steep granite slabs, tired legs, and even the RFDS rescuing another hiker while we were making our way up, there were definitely moments where we started questioning whether reaching the top was actually worth it. But like most road trips, the best moments often come after the hard ones. After surviving the climb, we slowed things right down around Stanthorpe and the Granite Belt region, spending the next few days enjoying campfires, local breweries, good food, cheese tastings and exploring some of the smaller hidden spots around Southern Queensland with no real schedule at all. From Granite Arch and Donnellys Castle to caravan life in the Queensland high country, this episode became a mix of challenge, recovery and everything we love most about travelling Australia.
