EPIC is the only word we can use to describe this film! Troy took Homer's The Iliad and grounded it as a historical conflict in characters that were deeply relatable and understandable. Achilles is a badass, Hector is honourable to a fault, Paris is such a romantic, Priam is a King who just loves his country with all his heart, and thats to name but a few. On top of that you had Helen, Briseis, Patroclus, Agememnon, Menalaus, even Odysseus, and many other characters who were great to watch and it's amazing that in the short runtime of a film that they can show you enough of all these characters to make you sympathise and admire them, or in some cases despise them - looking at you Agememnon. Hector vs Achilles was epic and heartbreaking. Seeing the Trojan horse and Odysseus make the plan was so cool but seeing the sack of Troy was just terrible to watch, brutal and barbaric. The movie made you feel every part of these moments that you might have heard of before watching. We loved it, if Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey can capture even a fraction of the epicness of this film then we can't wait to see it too! Troy is a 2004 epic historical action film directed by Wolfgang Petersen and written by David Benioff. Produced by units in Malta, Mexico, and Britain's Shepperton Studios, the film features an ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Diane Kruger, Sean Bean, Brian Cox, Brendan Gleeson, Rose Byrne, and Peter O'Toole. It is loosely based on Homer's Iliad in its narration of the entire story of the decade-long Trojan War—condensed into little more than a couple of weeks, rather than just the quarrel between Achilles and Agamemnon in the ninth year. Achilles leads his Myrmidons along with the rest of the Greek army invading the historic city of Troy, defended by Hector's Trojan army. The end of the film (the sack of Troy) is not taken from the Iliad, but rather from Quintus Smyrnaeus's Posthomerica, as the Iliad concludes with Hector's death and funeral.
