The Lord your God has chosen you to be his treasured possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth. The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all nations. Rather, it was because he loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out of Egypt with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God. He is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. But those who hate him he punishes to their face, destroying them. He does not delay; those who hate him he punishes to their face. Therefore, be careful to observe the commands, decrees and laws I am giving you today.” The Word of the Lord ■ Psalm 102: The Lord’s mercy endures forever for those who fear him. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. He forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases; he redeems your life from the pit, and crowns you with love and compassion. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed; he made known his ways to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel. The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He does not treat us as our sins deserve, or repay us according to our iniquities. ■ A reading from the First Letter of John (4:7-16): Dear brothers and sisters, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. Word of God ✠ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (11:25-30): At that time, Jesus said: “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. All things have been committed to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Word of the Lord Homily of June 11, 2026, SOLEMNITY OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS, which took place in the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes and Saint Justin, located at 30 San Juan de Mata Street in Madrid, between the Casa de Campo and Batán metro stations.
