Überwintern Spanien - Tornado in Mazarron, Neues aus der Schlangenbucht, Horrorszenen vom Sturm
Hello and welcome to a serious vacation video. On our journey to southern Spain, we visited beautiful places. We endured freezing cold and torrential rain. But as we continued south, full of optimism, we were confronted with these images on our way to our next destination... We were headed to Mazarrón. However, this very region had been hit by a tornado. There were fatalities and extensive property damage. We think these images speak for themselves. In some places, people were running for their lives. The path of destruction was immense. The beach in Vera was devastated and partially washed away. Roads became impassable. We waited out the storm and stayed put for the time being. After processing the horrific images, we didn't set off in that direction until late. We had used up all our supplies and had to do some shopping in Mazarrón. Some might say the Mercadona parking lot is one of the largest campsites in Spain. Ah yes, perfect time for a thumbs up! A subscription is great fun and free, but never without value. With the bell icon, you'll never miss any of our videos. So, let's go... Our travel companions, Conny and Alfred, and we had reserved a pitch at Camping Parazuelos. Driving there now feels like coming home, and a murmur of delight ripples through Kai-Uwe as we drive the last few meters downhill towards the sea. The tour guide is just taking care of the formalities, and then we're off to the campsite. Camping Parazuelos is probably quite well-known, but there's always something new. And it's still an alternative for us to Snake Bay, which also has some news to share. More on that later. From above, not much has changed since last year, except that the new campsite is constantly being developed. We immediately enjoy the view of the water - check. View from the bedroom - check. ... Sunsets - check. Sunrises - check. How does the day usually begin? With a baguette, of course. Available for pre-order at the bar. What's new? Huge washing machines, and separate ones for animals, but don't take that literally. There's also a dog grooming salon. The campsite is, by the way, completely geared towards campers with pets. If that's not your thing, you might have a bit of a hard time. There's even a hairdresser who cuts the campers' hair. He's super nice and even speaks German. So, let's go, off to the mountains! Not far away is the mountain we've nicknamed K2. It towers between the campsite and Snake Bay. To get to Snake Bay, you can either drive around it or simply hike over it. In the unfortunately still closed Snake Bay, there's a small bar. Here you can get light snacks and cold drinks (including freshly tapped ones). Yes, Snake Bay. A court hearing took place regarding the expropriation order against the owner, David. It was declared that the expropriation was unlawful. The ruling is not yet legally binding and will most likely be appealed by the city of Mazarrón. We're aware that Snake Bay is a very polarizing issue, but for many fans of this bay, it would be a real highlight if it were open to campers again. And for those who don't like it, well, it's not a place for everyone anyway. So, what else can you visit from the campsite? Why, the Bateria de Atalayon fortress, of course! The four of us rented one of the campsite's cars to get there. The actual construction work took place from 1933 to 1936. The battery was equipped with 38.1 mm Vickers guns, which had a range of approximately 35 km and fired penetrating 900 kg projectiles. It is the identical counterpart to the Batería de Cenizas, with which it crossed fire to prevent naval bombardment of the Cartagena naval base. Where there's a tower, there are stairs, so up we go. The fortress is located about 40 km from the campsite. Admission is free. Many tankers are anchored in the bay; we don't know if they are part of the shadow fleet. After so much culture, it's time for the shore—the beach. Near Parazuelos, they're working on a beach bar. It already looks impressive and we'd be very interested to see it open. We have a dinner date. Directly opposite the campsite, there's a beach bar where you can dine like royalty. We, the former Snake Bay group, were happily enjoying the view of the water, unaware of what lay ahead... One last walk before the hurricane, though... You'll see more about that in the next part of the drama. The disasters just kept coming...
