Sorrowful Mysteries Sign of the Cross By the sign of the Holy Cross, deliver us, O God, our Lord, from our enemies. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Offering Divine Jesus, we offer You this rosary that we are about to pray, meditating on the mysteries of our Redemption. Grant us, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, the virtues necessary for us to pray it well and the grace to gain the indulgences of this holy devotion. We offer this in particular, in reparation for sins committed against the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for world peace, for the conversion of sinners, for the souls in Purgatory, for the intentions of the Holy Father, for the increase and sanctification of the clergy, for our vicar, for the sanctification of families, for the missions, for the sick, for the dying, for all those who have asked for our prayers, for our country, and for all our particular intentions. I believe. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. At the following words, up to "Virgin Mary," all bow. who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried, descended into hell, on the third day rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. 1st decade First Sorrowful Mystery Prayer and Agony of Jesus in the Garden of Olives. Mt 26:36-39 Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit down while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” He went a little farther, fell with his face to the ground and prayed: “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Lord, we honor You for Your mortal agony. We ask You and the Blessed Mother for sincere repentance for our sins. Now, such a struggle and such a victory are only possible through prayer. It was through his prayer that Jesus conquered the Tempter from the beginning and in the final struggle of his agony (CCC, 2849). We ask You and the Blessed Mother for the spirit of penance and sacrifice, and the mortification of the senses.
