The United States, through Under Secretary of State Christopher Landau, warned at the General Assembly of the Organization of American States that the international community cannot remain indifferent to the attempt to stifle democracy in Bolivia through systematic blockades that have become a mechanism of political extortion against the legitimate government of President Rodrigo Paz. Landau emphasized that these blockades have gone beyond the right to protest and threaten the constitutional order, which prompted the United States to lead a joint declaration signed by 16 countries in the region that unanimously condemns the actions and characterizes the promoters of the radical protests as a violent minority seeking to destabilize the elected government.
