It begins with fertilization, where the sperm penetrates the outer layers of the oocyte, namely the corona radiata and zona pellucida, to achieve successful fusion. This fusion of gametes results in the combination of genetic material from both parents, leading to the formation of a zygote. Upon successful entry of the sperm nucleus into the oocyte, the egg is activated, triggering a cortical reaction that prevents polyspermy, ensuring that only one sperm fertilizes the egg. Subsequently, the oocyte completes its second meiotic division, forming a mature ovum and a polar body. This marks the beginning of the zygotic stage, characterized by rapid cell division through mitosis, known as cleavage, resulting in the formation of a morula. As the morula continues to divide, it forms a blastocyst, which consists of an inner cell mass that will eventually develop into the embryo and an outer cell layer called the trophoblast that will contribute to the placenta. The blastocyst then travels down the fallopian tube towards the uterus, where it undergoes implantation, embedding itself into the uterine lining. This intricate series of events during the first week of development is crucial for the establishment of a viable pregnancy and the foundation for the subsequent stages of embryogenesis. #Embryology #FirstWeekOfDevelopment #Fertilization #Zygote #Blastocyst #Implantation #Embryogenesis #MedicalEducation #MedStudent #FMGE #NEETPG #USMLE #MedicalExams #BoardExams #StudySmart #FutureDoctors #MedicalScience #EmbryoDevelopment #ReproductiveBiology #MedSchoolLife #fmge #fmgevideos #rapidrevisionfmge #fmgejan2023 #mbbslectures #nationalexitexam #nationalexittest #neetpg #usmlepreparation #usmlestep1 #fmge #usmle #drgbhanuprakash #medicalstudents #medicalstudent #medicalcollege #neetpg2023 #usmleprep #usmlevideos #usmlestep1videos #medicalstudents #neetpgvideos #embryology
