FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA Ep. 10 – Trekking sulle Dolomiti friulane – Parte 1

On these peaks, a UNESCO World Heritage site, I walked one of the most difficult trails of my life. It was a great effort, but it was repaid with breathtaking views. The Friulian #Dolomites—compared to the Venetian, Trentino, or Alto Adige ones—have the peculiarity of not being crossed by roads or ski lifts, so the only way to explore them is on foot. This makes them particularly wild and pristine, but also hostile. My journey began at the Rifugio Giaf in Forni di Sopra (UD) and continued towards the Val Monfalcon di Forni, climbing a very steep "forcella" with uneven ground before descending another "forcella" that was even more inaccessible. The total altitude gain exceeds 1,000 meters in a few kilometers, so the effort is considerable. It was the first time I had trekked on Dolomitic "forcelle": an experience for experts only. An adventure that gave me views that can only be enjoyed by using your own legs. The second part of the hike is in the next episode.
