Is it possible to have a better breakfast on a street corner for €4 than in a Michelin-starred restaurant? On this trip to Mexico City, I'm putting the two extremes of Mexican gastronomy to the test: the most iconic street breakfast versus ancestral haute cuisine. We start the route at La Esquina del Chilaquil, trying the most massive and amazing tortas in Condesa. From there, we head to a true institution since 1948, Fonda Margarita, where the traditional stews cooked in clay pots will blow your mind (the eggs with beans and the chicharrón in green salsa are out of this world!). To finish, we enter the debate: Expendio de Maíz (1 Michelin Star). A tasting menu where they serve you dishes until you say enough... but is it really worth the price or just a facade for tourists?
