Jeff || Nehemiah 6 || Title: Stay Focused on the Assignment Key Verse “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down...” — Nehemiah 6:3 INTRODUCTION One of the enemy's most effective strategies is distraction. If he cannot stop God's work through opposition, he will often attempt to derail it through diversion. That is exactly what happened in Nehemiah 6. The wall was nearly finished. The gaps had been closed. The work was progressing. Victory was within reach. Recognising this, Nehemiah's enemies changed their tactics. No longer relying solely on mockery or threats, they turned to deception. They invited Nehemiah to unnecessary meetings. They spread false accusations. They attempted character assassination. They hired false prophets to intimidate him. The objective was simple: --- Get Nehemiah to abandon his assignment. Yet Nehemiah remained focused. His famous response still inspires believers today: “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down.” He understood that every distraction accepted could become a delay in God's mission. This chapter points us directly to Jesus. Throughout His ministry, Christ faced constant attempts to divert Him from His purpose. Satan tempted Him in the wilderness. Crowds tried to make Him king prematurely. Religious leaders sought to trap Him. Even His disciples sometimes misunderstood His mission. Yet Jesus remained focused on the cross.
