Boarded at Sea! Are they PIRATES? We sail too close to the coast of Venezuela (EP 12)

On our way from Grenada to Curaçao, we decided it would be a fantastic idea to visit the Venezuelan islands of Los Aves. We were aware of that the country is in a state of economic collapse, leading to increase crime corruption and piracy, opening up a risk for sailors like us. But surely no pirates would venture as far as these remote, seemingly insignificant islands? As we sailed past, we saw the unmistakable shape of a few small, open boats, and decided we'd better not stop. As the islands faded into the distance, and we felt like we had escaped, some obscure Spanish rang out on the VHF. We looked behind us to see a small open boat, four men, and the unmistakable silhouette of an AK47. Thanks for watching another update from our sailing voyage!
