From Darkness to Light: An Intergenerational Holocaust Story

Join Doron Keren—grandson of Ignacy Chiger and son of Krystyna Chiger—and his son, 3GNY volunteer Daniel Keren, as they explore how Holocaust memory is inherited, how responsibility shifts across generations, and why preserving testimony is a moral act in an era of rising antisemitism and historical distortion. In this intergenerational webinar, father and son discuss two family memoirs: Beneath the Lightless Sky and The Girl in the Green Sweater. Both books recount the extraordinary true story of the Chiger family—Jews who survived the Holocaust by hiding for fourteen months in the sewers beneath Nazi occupied Lvov. First told by Ignacy “Jersey” Chiger, and later by his daughter Krystyna, their memoirs document leadership, ingenuity, and moral courage under unimaginable conditions.  Two books that tell the same survival story—but from opposite ends of life. One from a child who lived it. One from a father who carried it.  Thank you to the co-sponsors of this event: TOLI and Living Links
