Making Running Fun for Kids - Fox & Hound Intervals With Isabelle Sparkle - Practice for Parkrun

We get alot of comments on our Parkrun videos about keeping running fun, which we do. Here's a great example of a way to do speedwork / intervals that tests both grown up and child respectively but is also quite fun to do. The Fox and Hound method is a basic pursuit, in this example we had a rough 400 metre loop, Isabelle Sparkle (fox) started 200 metres around the loop, Daddy & James (Hounds) then have to not only make up for the ground but run over and above Isabelle's pace which is rather fast for a youngling. Running at speed and trying to hold onto it is a great way to improve your overall speed over distance, mix this in with some hills and the odd relaxed run and you have a great recipe for improvement. Parkrun times will inevitably tumble. We did this twice through, twice as a hound, twice as a fox with a few slower laps mixed in. To answer the question how far did it take to make up the ground on Isabelle... at least 2 full laps is the answer. Almost a Kilometre...thats how good she is.
