Both possess a jewel, a Miraculous, that connects them to their magical creature (Kwamis) and grants them powers. Their mission is to prevent Hawk Moth – who wants to steal their Miraculous – from causing destruction in the city by creating very dangerous supervillains – all while living their lives as students and keeping their identities a secret. Marinette Dupain-Cheng (Ladybug) – Studies at Collège Françoise-Dupont; possesses great artistic talent and dreams of becoming a fashion designer. She is a sweet and cheerful girl, but quite clumsy and shy, especially when she is near Adrien, her classmate, as she often ends up stuttering around him. She also really likes hamsters, according to the episode Stormy Weather. Her best friend is Alya, who often tries to help her get Adrien's attention. Marinette is able to transform into Ladybug through her Miraculous, which are her activated earrings (miracle stones) powered by the energy of Tikki, her Kwami. Her weapon is a yo-yo that helps her move around buildings, catch objects and people, and purify butterflies (akuma) imbued with evil by Hawk Moth. Her main power is the Lucky Charm, which creates a random object to help her defeat supervillains contaminated by an akuma, and she uses this object with her Lucky Vision. Adrien Agreste (Cat Noir / Chat Noir / Gato Noir) - He is Marinette's classmate and works as a teenage model for his father's clothing company. Being a very handsome and famous boy, he has numerous fans in Paris, including Marinette, Chloé, and the newcomer Lila, introduced in the last episode of the first season - Volpina - (she was one of the most powerful akumatized people to date). Always kind and calm, Adrien doesn't pay much attention to girls, as he's in love with Ladybug, unaware that she's his classmate, Marinette. His best friend is Nino, but Adrien feels lonely most of the time, since he rarely sees his father at home. He is able to transform into Cat Noir through his Miraculous, which is his ring activated with the energy of Plagg, his Kwami. His weapon is an indestructible metal staff, capable of stretching and shrinking in size. His main power is Cataclysm, which makes him capable of destroying anything he touches. Always kind and calm, Adrien doesn't pay much attention to girls, as he is in love with Ladybug, without knowing that she is his classmate, Marinette.
