1961: Als das Automobil 75 Jahre alt wurde

These four segments from West German television offer a glimpse into mobility in the early 1960s. The series begins with the 75th anniversary of the automobile in 1961. Historical footage traces the development of the car and illustrates its growing importance in everyday life. Next, the focus shifts to the Porsche S 75, which demonstrates its performance and handling characteristics during test drives. The segment then moves on to the traditional motocross race "Around the Devil's Lake" in Berlin's Grunewald forest, where, in addition to motorcycles, 16 VW vehicles take part. The series concludes with an excerpt from the "Traffic Lexicon," which deals with parking restrictions on Kurfürstendamm and the sometimes difficult-to-understand signage.
