Sounds of Spring No need for music here. It has been a noisy past two months. At the Salt Marsh, Opossums are active and females have pouches packed with babies. I am hoping to see the young riding on the mother’s back soon. While the Opossums are catching and crunching on Fiddler Crabs you can hear a Chuck Will’s Widow bird and a Clapper Rail. The Clapper Rail is a secretive bird; and it was a real treat to catch one coming out of the Needle Rush. This is the first time I have seen more than one Opossum at a time. This confrontation between a grumpy mama and a big daddy ends in mama telling him where to go with a big hiss. Down on the Chet Lewis Trail there is a lot of Bobcat action. Bobcats stroll by while Cardinals and Mourning Doves call in the background; and on wet nights the frogs sing a raucous chorus. The Bobcats joined the chorus with their own wailing cry. We end with a mysterious growling that catches the attention of some passing Raccoons. Any ideas on what it might be?
