Single Mom Fox Outsmarts Hungry Vultures to Feed Her Five Pups

Turkey vultures find the fox den on May 8th and begin stealing the food that mom fox, Sage, has brought to the den for her five remaining pups. The next day, mom stays close to the den and hunts only at night. I think this is because the vultures do not go to the den at night, so she knows the food will be safe. However, the coyotes do come near the den at night. So if mom hunts during the night, their food is safe from vultures, but the pups could be attacked by coyotes. If she hunts during the day, the coyotes are not active, but the vultures will steal her food. On the night of May 9th, she decides to hunt and is gone for most of the night; thankfully, no coyotes stop by the den. Looking ahead at my footage for the next few videos, a coyote will be nearing the den, but spoiler alert: the fox pups are ok. Mom catches five different servings of rodents this night, often leaving the den and coming back within 30 minutes with a fresh catch! 📸Trail Camera footage is from May 9th.
