From Harm to Hope Ending FGM in seven Kebeles

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society, in partnership with the Austrian Red Cross and with financial support from the State of Vorarlberg, has been implementing a women’s empowerment project in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of western Ethiopia. The initiative has achieved significant milestones, including the official declaration of seven kebeles as free from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other harmful traditional practices. It has also driven remarkable progress in women’s economic empowerment through the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) model, enabling women to launch and grow successful local businesses.
