I'd like to discuss with you what the strengths of people with ADHD are in the context of developmental disorders. ◾️Characteristics of ADHD/ASD The characteristics of ADHD are hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention. There's also ASD, which stands for Autism Spectrum Disorder, another developmental disorder. While ASD often co-occurs, its characteristics include strong fixations, sensory hypersensitivity, and difficulty seeing things from another person's perspective. I'm very bad at metacognition, like thinking from someone else's perspective, and I have a weak ability to abstract things. I also struggle with experiences like being possessed or having someone take over my mind. These are some of the things I experience. ASD and ADHD often coexist. ◾️Strengths of people with ADHD Speaking of strengths, what I often think is a strength of people with developmental disorders is their inner passion. It's not about other people's opinions. There's a kind of overflowing power that comes from within, and although it's often forgotten, it's like watching a child—a kind of overflowing power, something from within. From the perspective of a typical person, this can be amazing, scary, respectable, or childish and foolish, and not even profitable. But these things exist. There are surprisingly many people with developmental disorders who are successful in their careers, and they're also common among creators. Creators and influencers often express their own opinions. People often say, "Cherish your inner passion, you should do what you want to do," and while most people agree with that sentiment, in reality, it's different from what they're saying. People with developmental disabilities, for better or worse, tend to impose their opinions, and that's the impression I often get when I observe them. But that's also a good thing. This might sound mean, but it's a positive trait. Ultimately, most people, those with neurotypical features, have weaker personal desires and tend to adopt those desires by imitating others. Neutral people tend to start with, "I want what that person wants." People with ADHD aren't entirely devoid of that element, but their inner passion, their desire to do what they want, is stronger. This impulsivity can sometimes be emotional and frightening, but it's also fascinating. I find it intriguing. I think this is one of their strengths. ◾️Strengths of People with ASD So, what are the strengths of people with ASD? Their strength lies in this unwavering dedication. They never give up, for better or for worse. We're all told not to give up, and we might be able to try 100 times, but people with ASD might try 50,000, 100,000 times. There used to be truly hardworking people (you might not understand this), but the effort of people with ASD is a little different. It's almost robotic, like continuing even after everyone else has left. Like a robot that continues to care for its doctor even after he's died—that kind of madness, they can do the same thing a million, ten million times. It's not just effort; it sets them apart from neurotypical people. It's a kind of talent. Ordinary people might be surprised, thinking, "Wow, that's incredible talent," or "Does such a person even exist?", but it's actually quite common in psychiatry. But this is also two sides of the same coin. Because they tr...
