2025: Fellow Talk: Emancipatory Aesthetics of Contemporary Arab Art

لقاء مع خلدون حجازين الثلاثاء 30 أيلول 2025 | الساعة 6:30 مساءً | البيت البيروتي استطاع العديد من الفنانين المعاصرين من بلدان المشرق العربي وفي الشتات تطوير أساليب جديدة في ممارستهم الفنية في مواجهة الإرث الاستعماري والتحديات الاجتماعية والسياسية التي يعايشونها، وذلك من خلال الاستناد إلى أشكال الفنون التقليدية أو عبر العمل بالوسائط التكنولوجية الحديثة، حيث تسعى أعمالهم إلى خلق حالة من الصمود والمقاومة والتحرر، وإحياء النظم المعرفية والثقافية الأصيلة في المخيال الجمعي، وفي الحيز الميداني على حد سواء. انطلاقًا من النظرية النقدية ونظريات نزع الاستعمار، يُقدم خلدون حجازين، الحاصل على زمالة دارة الفنون للدراسات العليا في الفن العربي الحديث والمعاصر 2025، حواريّة حول رسالته وعمله البحثي الذي يستكشف سؤال المعايير الجمالية أو الفلسفية التي يُمكن من خلالها فهم واعتبار الممارسات الفنية المعاصرة بوصفها محركًا للوعي التحرري من البنى الاستعمارية والرأسمالية. يُسلّط هذا اللقاء الضوء على المناهج الفلسفية والمنهجية التي شكلت إطارًا للعمل البحثي، مستعرضًا أمثلة من فنانين ومجموعات وممارسات فنية وثقافية تجسد محور ومجال فلسفة الفن التحررية. خلدون حجازين هو فنان أردني، ومدير للبرامج الفنية والثقافية، ومحاضر في كلية الفنون والتصميم في الجامعة الأردنية. عمل خلدون كقيّم ومستشار مع العديد من المبادرات والمؤسسات الفنية والثقافية في الأردن والخارج، كما أقام معارض فنية شخصية في كل من عمّان ودبي، إلى جانب العديد من المعارض الجماعية وورش العمل وبرامج التبادل الفني على المستويين الإقليمي والدولي. يحمل خلدون درجة الماجستير في الفنون الجميلة من جامعة تفتس الأمريكية (Tufts University) في بوسطن، ويُكمل حاليًا درجة الدكتوراه في الفلسفة في كلية الآداب في الجامعة الأردنية. الصورة: لورانس أبو حمدان، زفزافة، 2024، لعبة فيديو، ألوان، صوت، 45 دقيقة. لقطة من العمل. TUESDAY 30 SEPTEMBER 2025 | 6:30 PM | BEIT AL BEIRUTI Contemporary artists from the Arab Eastern Mediterranean and its diasporas are developing new approaches, through both traditional practices and new media technologies, to confront the colonial legacies and the socio-political challenges of the present. Their work aims to nurture resilience, resistance, and liberation, while reviving indigenous cultural and knowledge systems in both collective imagination and lived experience. Drawing on critical theory and decolonial thought, this talk examines the philosophical and methodological frameworks that shape this potential of art, and presents examples of artists, collectives, and cultural practices engaged in emancipatory aesthetics. Khaldoun Hijazin, recipient of the Darat al Funun Dissertation Fellowship for Modern and Contemporary Arab Art 2025, presents this talk as part of his doctoral research. His work explores the aesthetic and philosophical criteria through which contemporary artistic practices can be understood as catalysts for emancipatory awareness in the face of colonial and capitalist structures. Khaldoun Hijazin is a Jordanian visual artist, cultural and artistic director, and lecturer at the School of Arts and Design at the University of Jordan. He has collaborated with numerous institutions locally and internationally, curating and producing a wide range of art and cultural projects. In addition to his artistic record of solo exhibitions in Amman and Dubai, Khaldoun has participated in numerous group exhibitions, workshops and artistic exchange programs in Jordan and abroad. Hijazin holds a Master of Fine Arts from Tufts University in Boston, and is currently completing a PhD in Philosophy at the School of Arts - the University of Jordan.
