The residents and vendors of Lajes dos Negros, a village in Campo Formoso, are outraged by the merchants' decision to move the open-air market, which used to take place on Sundays, to Saturdays. The change has generated dissatisfaction. The controversy is not new. Ten years ago, the same proposal was rejected after strong popular mobilization. Currently, a decree maintains the market on Sundays, but the uncertainty continues. The city hall, accused of "sitting on the fence," has not yet officially commented on the impasse, which increases the pressure from both sides. While the uncertainty persists, the community of Lajes dos Negros remains mobilized. After all, the market is not just a commercial event. It is part of the identity of a people who, for generations, have fought for justice, equality, and respect.
