What is BIRADS, and what does it mean for me?

BIRADS is an acronym for Breast Imaging Reporting and Data Systems. This is a nomenclature tool to help with quality assurance in mammography. It is published and trademarked by the American College of Radiology. BIRADS scoring helps to categorize imaging findings into specific categories to help women and their doctors to answer the question, “Were there any abnormal findings?” The test is not diagnostic, meaning it does not diagnose breast cancer. It can only call attention to abnormal findings. There are seven categories in BIRADS, 0 through 6...
