If you're interested in home gardening, please register! ------------------ Tomo's Biography Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1980. Graduated from Shiga University Graduate School of Education. He entered university with the desire to "eliminate global poverty with genetic modification technology," but as he progressed in his studies, he realized the dangers to human health and the contradiction of distributing it in society. Therefore, he resolved that "the only way to realize my dream is to become a farmer!" and changed his future career path to farming. Believing that knowledge of water was essential for farming, he first acquired basic knowledge of natural science through improving the water quality of Lake Biwa and conducting ecosystem surveys at Shiga University Graduate School. After graduation, aiming for agriculture that is kind to both people and nature, I joined an agricultural corporation in Mie Prefecture, where I gained my first experience in large-scale commercial agriculture on a 100-hectare scale, mainly cultivating cabbage and rice. However, while working there, I became disillusioned by the excessively high pesticide use and low quality of produce in Japan. I realized that the only way to deliver truly safe and nutritious food to the world was through organic farming, so I changed jobs to an organic farm in Shiga Prefecture. There, I obtained organic certification for vegetables and began seriously working on pesticide-free cultivation, but I learned the reality that organic farming is almost always unprofitable. Realizing that I couldn't do anything in such a financially precarious situation, I became independent in 2009 and opened Tomo Farm. After much trial and error, I established a farming method that appropriately uses reduced-pesticide and pesticide-free cultivation depending on the season and variety, delivering safe and delicious crops to more people without waste. Since 2022, I have developed my own sales channel through an e-commerce site and have achieved profitability.
