We turn our attention to England, to its most significant developments of the 17th and 18th centuries, and to the work of the artist who, in the 17th century, modernized painting and brought it up to par with that of the continent: Anthony van Dyck. We will also discuss: Hans Holbein the Younger (c. 1497-1543) and Nicholas Hilliard (1547-1619), leading artists at the courts of Henry VIII and Elizabeth II, respectively.
