I'm transitioning to natural (4 months post relaxer) and this is the way that I currently take down my protective hairstyles (box braids, marley twists, etc). I kept my Marley twist and for three weeks and then I was ready to remove them. I use the Creme of Nature with Argan Oil conditioner to saturate my entire head then I begin to take down each twist and cut the rubber band so as not to have breakage from Rolling it down the length of my hair.
