In this episode , we drive the much hyped Tata Nano Electric, otherwise known as the Jayem Neo. With its compact dimensions and affordable price, is this the car we have always been longing for? Tune in to find out. The Tata Nano is India’s wondercar , and shocked the world when it came out. It offered the space of an Ambasaddor at a price lesser than the Maruti 800. Media hyped it up as the ‘1 lakh rupee car’ , and while the ex factory price at launch was within that range , the public were not willing to pay the on road price which was a lil more. The vehicle also was branded with a ‘cheap car ‘ tag and that too affected sales quite a bit. Tata made several updates on it based on. Market feedback and each one was better than the predecessor. Towards the end of its life cycle , it was even offered with Power steering and an AMT unit , but it did little to turn up its sales. After the vehicle was discontinued is when the market realized how ahead of time the Nano was and what a great city car it was. This sentiment is now reflecting in used car prices too which have boomed after the vehicle was discontinued. Tata also tried its hands on a lot of variants , which the public did not get.
