The SSL certificate creates a secure connection between your website and the visitor's web browser. This ensures that any and all information they send to your website through a form, whether payment information, personal information, or questions and comments, that data is sent encrypted so that no one from the outside can see that information. ● SiteGround's new client area SiteGround has recently moved from the cPanel interface to one they developed in-house. The interface and tools are really impressive and make it easy to install a free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate on your website domain, it literally takes just a couple of clicks. ● Which SSL is right for you? For the majority of the people, the simple Let's Encrypt SSL certificate will be enough. This is for people that have a personal blog website, or even a business website where you are collecting emails, support questions from your visitors, or even log-ins for membership sites. The simple SSL certificate will also be good for those that don't have a lot of sub-domains for their main domain name. If you do, then a wildcard SSL certificate will be good for you. The benefit of using a wildcard SSL is that you won't have to create a certificate for each sub-domain you have on your website, e.g. store, blog, images, etc. instead you create one certificate for your main domain name (e.g., example.com), and all the sub-domains you have right now, or will create in the future, will be covered by this certificate. If you have an eCommerce store or are collecting payment information, such as credit cards, then you will want to use the paid premium SSL certificate. This will offer you a lot more coverage and protection for your business should anything go wrong. ● After installation Now that you have your SSL certificate installed, it's time to make sure that anyone who visits your site without using the "https" protocol will automatically be redirected to the secure "https" version of your website. This is done using the HTTPS Enforce settings. All you need to do is toggle the switch to on and you're all set. Now you don't have to worry about a visitor connecting to your website insecurely and potentially compromising their information.
