The 100 Point Scoring System (from www.robertparker.com): 96-100: An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume. 90 - 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines. 80 - 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws. 70 - 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine. 60 - 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors. 50 - 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable. I recently looked back at all of my videos and noticed that one of my favorite grape varieties has not been featured often enough. And I wondered—did I not want to talk about it to ensure that there is enough of this delicious elixir for me? Did I want to keep it to myself in a fit of selfishness? I can't be sure, but I want to share it with you: One of my favorite grape varieties, a versatile champion of the wine world that continues to be overlooked and is often underprized: Chenin Blanc! Chenin Blanc is an exceptionally versatile white grape variety. Few if any, grape varieties can produce excellent sparkling wine, still wines, oak-aged wines, sweet wines, rich and concentrated wines, and lean and fresh wines. The best Chenins can age for decades and can grow in diverse climates but it is also used for producing bland mass-market wines with little distinction.
