Drake L4B driven by Pride KW1/ Browning Mark III AM radio

Just a quick vid of a Drake L4B linear amplifier driven by an infamous Pride KW1 and a Browning Mark 3 AM radio. The Pride is on the low side and has the Nomad variable bias and is dialed all the way down. 50 watts dead key swinging to 150 going into the Drake. Drake is talking to about 1200 average, whistling to 1500 average and doing over 2000 peak. The Pride will do about 750 on its own if it where on the high side and dialed up. The Browning Mark 3 Am is stock so doing just 4 watts. My early Drake L4B story as a kid. I was 16 and my older brother who was 18 was lost in the mean streets of Detroit, one of the worse zips in the USA. I was into CB'ing like you wouldn't believe back then and my parents where happy to support my habit to keep me in the house and off the streets. Already had a Moonraker 4 on the roof, but the only power I had was a new Black Cat JB-150 which I never could get over 75 watts out of. Anyway, Christmas was coming up and of course I was drooling over more power. My Dad was at Norms Amateur radio and CB shop and was cutting the check to buy Norms personal L4B. Other people at Norms where astonished that Dad was going to buy a kid this for Christmas. As Dad was handing over the check, Norm said to make sure you get a 220 line as this is too much to run on 110. Dad who was an old TV repairman himself and knew what 220 could do, and also knowing that I didn't know what I was doing and liked to stick my hands in stuff, especially to get more power, snatched that check right back. I ended up getting a Pride KW1 like the one I am using as a driver in the vid. The Pride KW1 is just a higher drive version of the Pride DX-300 probably to get past the FCC. I was OK with my Pride but I always wanted more. Took me about 7 years at 23 to get one from an old timer selling out. I used a Black cat JB-76 for a driver. I could dead key 200 and swing 1700 with that drake and if I really wanted to cause confusion (and TVI too) I would drive the JB-76 with the JB150. I could then key 1 watt and swing to 2000. Except for the big boys on the bowl, I had that hammer down. Those where the days.
