In the final year of the war, the Waal is the border between liberated Netherlands and occupied territory. After the failure of Operation Market Garden, the Allies were stuck south of the river. Tiel lies on the front line and is heavily shelled by the Allies. In mid-November, the population is forced to evacuate, and Tiel, Tiel becomes a ghost town....
