Felipe Silva fell victim to a scam after advertising the sale of a laptop for R$ 1,800 on a very popular digital platform. The criminals forged emails and screenshots from the platform to deceive the victim, who lost both his money and his computer. In the same week he advertised the product, someone showed interest in the laptop and asked to continue negotiations outside the platform, via a messaging app. Always very politely, the scammer sent payment receipts and even a photo of a man holding an ID. The criminal said he would send a courier to pick up the computer. After Felipe delivered it, the scammer said that payment would only be released after confirmation of receipt of the product, as a security measure against fraud. The victim only realized he had fallen for a scam when he received instructions to pay a R$ 159 Pix fee to validate the sale. Using his work computer, Felipe was able to identify that the man in the photo is a lawyer from São Paulo. In a statement, the lawyer confirmed that he is also a victim of criminals and that his data and photos have been used by scammers for over two years. He also said that the images were obtained illegally, that he filed a police report, and that he sued the website for allowing the uncontrolled use of his photos. The Public Security Secretariat said that the cases were registered as fraud and that it is available to continue the investigations.
