RAF Burtonwood's Satellite Bases
RAF Burtonwood was the centre of the main supply, modification, repair and eventual scrapping of USAAF aircraft in WWII and managed a large range of satellite bases across the UK. Post war different satellites were taken over for different roles and included Sealand, Cranage and many more including ammunition stores. The US Army took over in 1967 and opened a third range of satellites including ammunition stores, emergency hospitals and a huge marine fleet. This talk is about all these sub bases and their role in WWII and maintaining peace in Europe during the Cold War.
