HOW TO PAINT A STANDARD POODLE IN OILS with Suzanne Barrett Justis

HOW TO PAINT A STANDARD POODLE IN OILS with Suzanne Barrett Justis Sometimes you just want to do an EXTRA special job on a commission. Ray and Kristy Jones of One Fine Cut Poodles are the breeders we got our dogs from. Ray had asked me to do a portrait of their dog Willie to give to Kristy for Christmas. I was so excited to do this portrait for them and I hope that I can bring just a fraction of the joy with this painting that they have given to us with their amazing dogs, In this time lapsed painting tutorial, we will paint a realistic dog portrait of Willie, the Standard Poodle. I start with a loose charcoal sketch then lightly block in with acrylic paint in basically a value study. I block in the sky and basically get the entire background in. I will go over the the palette we will be using in painting a realistic dog portrait of this Standard Poodle. I will first block the dog in and then slowly build the paint to create the depth in the fur. You will learn how to paint a realistic dog portrait with oil paint, step by step. You will learn to paint fur by mounding your color along the folds of skin and understanding the topography of the dog's face. Understanding how to manipulate color and value and understanding basic structure of the dog will help you create a realistic pet portrait. Even thought this portrait is in oils, a lot of these same techniques can be applied to painting pet portraits in acrylic paint as well. This time lapsed oil painting tutorial is suitable for beginner painters Follow or paint along and learn my painting process of this original artwork.
