Quality brushes are essential to the artist and with care will last you many years. If funds are tight I recommend allocating more money for brushes and saving on palettes, surfaces and paints when you are first starting out. 1:25 Synthetic brushes are used for acrylic painting as they hold their shape with the constant soaking in water. 1:00 The four styles and sizes of brushes you will need: Round, Flat, Filbert and Bright. 2:53 Round Brushes. Round brushes create line strokes and are great for details. A brush roughly the size of your pinky finger is great. This brush can hold lots of paint for a variety of different strokes. 5:40 A Flat Brush that is 1- 1.5 fingers width is a good place to start. The brush I'm using here is the Winsor & Newton Monarch Flat size 12 http://goo.gl/dZe0xL 5:58 Filbert Brush: The Filbert Brush, with it's unique rounded corners is a favorite brush of mine. 6:10 A Filbert Brush the size of two finger widths can be used for filling in lots of color and experimenting on the canvas. 6:30 Demonstration of the Filbert Brush. Note how the brush provides a cleaner edge to the stroke. 7:33 Bright Brushes: Bright Brushes are for creating short quick brush strokes. 7:56 Demonstration of Bright Brush.
