War Hero or Villan? A Survivor of WW2’s Deadliest POW Camp
Warrant Officer Bill Sticpewich was one of only six men to survive the horrific forced march of 2400 Allied prisoners by Japanese guards at Sandakan, Borneo, in 1945. He was hailed as a war hero and gave evidence that sent Sandakan's commandant and his murderous henchmen to the gallows. But to his fellow prisoners Sticpewich was a Japanese collaborator. Historians Mat McLachlan and Tom Gilling explore this fascinating chapter of history, and dicuss Tom's new book, The Witness.
